December

He gathered the tears of romantics
The first snowflakes to fall from the sky
He knelt to collect every dewdrop
And the sea-spray that entered his eyes

He took golden rays of the sunlight
Feathers from the phoenix of myth
He acquired a portion of Heaven
And last flickers of hope in a wish

He pilfered the blackest of midnights
Grave confessions that lurk in the soul
He captured the echoes in caverns
And odd shadows that crept on the walls

He painted with clear, light, and shadow
The last of his beautiful daughters
And presented his fairest creation
For young poets to christen, “December”
